Wells Beach: Day 3

May 27, 2012

Last full day in Wells Beach

The weather report wasn’t great, but it ended up being a gorgeous day in Wells Beach on the last day we were there.

We started the day with donuts:

…and a walk along the beach.

I split off and went running for a bit; when I got back, there was a lot of relaxing that had to get done.

…and castle-making, of course.

Lunchtime!

Later, Dan and I went to the pool.

There, we saw Harrison and Jordan…

…who were curious about my underwater camera, and ended up taking some really great pics.

Paul was there, too:

Later, Melanie, Jeremy, Dan and I went off to pose in front of the big pink dinosaur we kept passing as we drove out to different restaurants each night.

Lobster time!

I love that there’s a roll of paper towels hanging above each table.

And Stanley wasn’t the only one having a birthday!

After cake, it was time for a family photo shoot on the beach.

And we ended the day the same way we started it, with a walk along the beach.

Family Fun

I had a great time today. Dan and I hung out with everyone, played on the beach, swam in the pool, had an awesome dinner with the family at a steakhouse, lit sparklers, talked with everyone in the evening, and I took lots of photos. I even put my night photography skills to good use (scroll to the end to see). Anyway, here are the pics from Day 2 of our family vacation in Wells Beach, Maine:

Dan had a great observation at the beach. Why is it that when you give kids shovels in the sand, suddenly they become city planners — they start building irrigation systems, they build roads and tunnels. Can you find a better educational tool than a bucket and a shovel?

And now for a morning stroll along the beach.

Family weekend in Maine

Dan and I flew to Maine for his uncle Stanley’s 75 birthday weekend celebration. Stanley later told us all when we went out to dinner that when you turn 75, the only thing you want for your birthday is to have your family around you. What a sweet guy. Anyway, it’s the unofficial start of summer and we headed off on a fun adventure up north!

Here we are in a taxi to the airport at 7am:

On the plane by 9:30am:

…and in Maine by 11am!

Dan’s cousin Jeremy and his wife Melanie picked us up from the airport. Off to the beach resort we go!

and then to lunch…

Afterwards, we went to stock up on some snacks. It was there, that Dan discovered the imported beer aisle.

and they sell liquor at the grocery store here, too!!! (We don’t have this at the grocery stores in Pennsylvania.)

Later, we met up with the family on Dan’s mother’s side (Dan’s mother was Stanley’s sister) and we all went out to dinner. It was awesome seeing everyone again (I had met some family at our wedding last Summer, as well as Melanie and Jeremy’s wedding last Fall) and others, I met for the first time here. Later, we headed back to the rooms.
