I’m Engaged!!!

The Best Surprise

On my way home from Costa Rica, I had a stopover in Newark, where I called Dan on my way home to Philadelphia. I asked him if he was picking me up at the airport. He said he really wanted to, but he had some late clients at work. He mentioned that he wanted to get home before me to greet me. I didn’t think anything of that. I just figured there was something at home he wanted to share with me…

So when I saw this giant present and flowers waiting for me on the table, I just figured he wanted me to wait until he got home to open it.

I thought it was strange that he taped the word “will” to the top of the present.

I asked him what that meant and Dan just responded with, “Just open the present!” So I did and inside I found another individually wrapped gift with another word on it…

That’s when the shock began to set in as I started to think, “Is this the moment I’ve been waiting for? Is it happening right NOW!?!?!”

Suddenly, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest…

Ohmygod Ohmygod….

Then he took the ring out of the box, got down on one knee and proposed!

I think I said yes — I was so shocked and happy and excited and in love!!!!! I just can’t remember if I managed to get the word out!!!! Haha!

I thought it was so cute that he used all kinds of boxes from all over the house to wrap. One of the boxes was from the hannukah candles. The next day, I found the hannukah candles in a bag in a drawer. I thought that was funny.

Then we started to call our families and close friends!

Then we did other stuff…

…and then more phone calls!!!!

One of my friends who was engaged and planning her wedding suggested we get the ring sized at her jeweler. The ring, which was a family heirloom from Dan’s mother and grandmother didn’t fit me right, so Dan called to see when we could bring it in. It turned out the jeweler was still in the shop, so we we went out to meet with him. After a really nice consultation, he promised to have the ring done by the following day. So I handed it over and Dan and I went out to celebrate.

The next day

I was on the bus on my way to teach dance class at the gym when Dan called me teasing, “I know there was something important I was supposed to do after work but I just can’t remember what it was…” To which I replied, “Do you have my ring?” He said he did! Dan asked me when I’d be done teaching and when I told him 7 pm, he said he didn’t want to wait around that long so maybe he’d come meet me at my class.

When I got to the gym, some of my dancers were already there. I told them I was engaged! I didn’t have the ring yet because it was getting sized, but that my FIANCE (love it!) might bring the ring to class.

So when Dan showed up in the middle of my class with the ring, he got a standing ovation from everyone. We kissed and I was so excited! One of my dancers snapped a few photos of Dan presenting me with the ring:

After Dan left the studio, everyone ran over to look at the beautiful ring. Dan told me later one of the trainers told him when he left the room — that looks like an important moment, you should take a picure. So Dan came back to the studio and took a picture of me with my dance class around me.

I could hardly focus, but somehow I managed to finish teaching my class. I kept thinking how I feel like the only girl int he world, so I had us all dance to Rhianna’s “Only Girl In The World.”

When we got home, Dan cooked a romantic dinner…. and we took several ring photos. He posted one online and wrote “She said yes!” underneath the photo. Oh what fun!!!!!

This feels so surreal, but it’s true — I’m not single anymore! Dan just took me off the dating market for real!!!!
