Martha’s Vineyard: Day 4

September 25, 2010

Biking, Beaching, Kayaking.

Dan and I started the day at the Right Fork Diner. We biked there; it’s a diner at a local airfield for glider planes.

Off to the beach!

Biking back to the cottage:

Later, we took a moonlight kayak tour. It was pretty awesome. Also, Dan and i were the only ones in the group riding in a tandem kayak. Our guide Justen told us that a 2-person kayak could be tricky, but we rocked it! In fact we were such a great team on the water that we easily cruised fast on the water and stayed at the front without even trying.

Here we are at the Felix Neck Wildlife senctuary pre-kayak excursion:

We were given all the equipment we needed for the moonlight kayak trip… since I was sitting in the front, I got a headlamp.

Our guide Justen, and Janet, a volunteer at the Wildlife Sanctuary helped us adjust our lifevests. Once they got theirs on, they chest-bumped.

Our kayaking group!

Our guide explained to us that Jaws was filmed here in the waters off the island. That would explain all the Jaws movie posters I’ve seen decorating some of the shops/restaurants around town, and also the names of restuarants like Sharkies.

The sun started to set:

We got crabs on the trip:

Later, we paddled onto land and that’s where we sat (in our kayaks) while Justen gave us an ineresting talk about the local water life, shells, as well as info about the moon and the rotation of the Earth, and the moon’s impact on the water and the tides.

Then we watched the moon rise over the water:

Dan held the moon:

We capped off he night by showering, dressing up and going out to dinner.
