Happy Independence Day!
It was a long, fun day celebrating America’s Birthday! Dan and I started the day in Old City.
Parade
The Philly 4th of July parade came through historic Philadelphia, and we were there all ready to be entertained.
We ran into my (eloped and newly married!) friends Amy and Josh:
Isaac and Courtney eventually made it to the parade as it was winding down.
Ice Cream Festival
We rounded up our bicycles and headed off to the Ice Cream Festival on Penns Landing. We were getting ready for a day of fun and adventure on our bikes!
Your $5 donation buys you a spoon.
There were 50 flavors of ice cream and water ice to choose from. Here we go!
Cheesesteaks
We did it backwards — ice cream, and then lunch! We picked up cheesesteaks for a picnic in the park. Off we go to Rittenhouse Square!
Here we are in the park:
Marlo’s Pool
It was so crazy hot, we soon re-located our naps to Marlo’s pool. (Thanks, Mar!)
Green Street Party
Then it was off to Gretchen’s condo, where she and her condo neighbors were having a party in their courtyard.
Me, Marlo, Sam and Gretchen:
Tommy and Sam:
Hughe’s Party
Then it was off to yet another party as the sun began to set, to watch the fireworks from Hughe’s bf’s mom’s apartment in the art museum area. (Thanks for the invite, Hughe! It was awesome to end the holiday there!)
The porch was a front-row view to the fireworks over the Parkway.
Being patriotic:
And the grand finale of the night…
Fireworks!!!
I love how the crowd cheers for fireworks!
After the fireworks, Dan, Isaac, Courtney and I faught the crowds and biked home. It was like 90 degrees out, even after the sun set. What fun day! I got this really cool odometer on my bike, so I could calculate how far we rode. We rode leisurely all day, for a total of about an hour on the bikes. It’s the best way to get around the city!
Anyway, happy Fourth of July, Philly!
