DNC: Day 4, am

August 28, 2008

The DNC is NONSTOP!

Here I am after dealing with yet another major technocal difficulty! Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joseph Biden stopped by the Pennsylvania Delegate breakfast. It was his first public appearance after accepting the VP appointment at the DNC the night before. I had the whole speech on my recorder, but before I could stop it and save it, it got bumped and the entire speech was lost. Luckily, I knew some of the folks who were recording it as well. My friend Vincent Thompson from Philadelphia got it all on tape and played the speech back for me so that I’d have it. Not only did he save the interview, he saved me from a heart attack. I was a little freaked out that I might not have this story! All I have to say to Vincent — Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

After the breakfast, I drove over to the CBS trailer in the Pepsi Center parking lot where I had to park my car and meet up with the others to take the bus over to Invesco Field. Here I am with Aliah from the CBS radio network in New York. In an effort to avoid the long security lines, we’re heading to Invesco Field EIGHT hours before the big speech. Crazy.

I finally get down to the Invesco Field floor where delegates are already filing in. As I recorded this podcast, some guy from the AP takes my photo and asks me what I’m doing. I guess he put it out in the photo feed, because my name and photo ended up in the next day’s Daily News!

Here’s the photo link:

On my way back to the press box, I was on my cell phone, getting ready to go live with my radio station, when I ran into Sway from MTV. I video recorded him as I was on the phone (I’m a multi-tasker!) He was nice, but I don’t hink he was into being video taped.

We all got into the elvator to the press level. It was so full! This woman, running the elevator buttons told us it’s worse than a Denver Broncos game! She was strict about the elvator. Since it was packed, when we stopped on another floor she warned the people waiting to get on to wait for the next elevator and when someone stepped on the elevator after she said not to, she kicked them off! You go, girl!
