Dry Run in the Press Box
It was one big confusing arena and I was so glad to get a chance to check out the Press Box at the Pepsi Center before the Democratic Convention actually started, other wise I’m not sure I would’ve found my spot. The radio press box overlooked the convention floor. This was the spot where I set up my computer.
Down on the convention floor, I got my bearings and noticed CNN was doing live reports. I called the station and went live with a couple of preview reports. Of course, I called the editor at my station and told him to turn on CNN because I was standing over Anderson Cooper’s shoulder and he’d be able to see me talking on the phone. Steve the CBS tech guy did the same thing — he called his parents though, and told them to turn on CNN and catch him in the background. Much later that night, Steve called me in my hotel room to tell me that he was watching a re-broadcast of the CNN pre-convention coverage and he could see me hovering in the background. I got a kick out of that!
This is on the side of the convention floor at the Pepsi Center. This is where the TV stations were setting up. Not a lot of people here…. yet.
