Party by the airport
Holy hangover, that was one fun party last night!
Starwood, a “vision of the W hotel chain” opened a new hotel near the Philadelphia airport last night. The new hotel is called, “Aloft” and while it’s relatively far from Center City, it was a great time.
The biggest (only?) downfall about this place, I think, is the location. It was a 30 dollar cab ride out of Center City. As someone who lives in the city so that I don’t have to drive around or spend big bucks on cabs, that was a minus. Not sure how that will fare for hotel parties there (if any). Shuttle busses, anyone? This really WOULD be an amazing space for another blow-out hotel party, though.
Now onto the pluses — and there were many. Let’s start with how the party fed my reality additiction. Christian Siriano, winner of Project Runway was there. Awww yeah, he’s fierce. Smaller than I had imagined with an even bigger personality. Here he is flanked by myself, Jamyra and Melony:
And then there was the dancing! The DJ was so great, every song made me want to dance! Jamyra, Melony, Dan and I got our groove on. We just couldn’t leave the dance floor! (Well, Dan did. He spent some quality time at the bar.) Every song though, was an, “Oh my god I love that song!” kind of a song.
Speaking of the incredible DJ, it was none other than DJ Jazzy Jeff — you know, from DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince fame. He’s a Philly native (welcome home!) and one hell of a DJ. Jeff can mix anything. If you ever get the chance to go to a party he’s DJing, go.
Mayor Michael Nutter was there (Go, party mayor! Does he EVER sleep?) And so was Howard Stern’s girfriend, Beth something. I forget her last name. Melony pointed her out.
But the BEST part of the night was after we thought it was all over. Everyone got a party gift bag. I thought for sure it was just a bunch of soap and hotel stuff that says “Aloft” on it. It was so much more — make-up and other stuff… plus AN IPOD SHUFFLE!!!
