Nile Boat Ride
As the day turned into evening, Emille thought it would be nice if we went on a boat ride along the Nile. He hooked us up with his friend Abdullah, who steered the boat. The hot, sticky day turned into a hot sticky night and since there wasn’t much wind, they had a friend from another motorized boat, pull us upstream a bit, and we drifted back to our original spot. The starting point was the dock of one of the other hotels along the Nile. Grace and I got a chance to relax and chat. Later, Abdullah told us about life in Luxor and about his brother who has multiple wives. At first I thought he was kidding, but he wasn’t. The sunset over the river was beautiful.
Nile Tea
Here, Abdullah makes us some tea. No matter how incredibly hot it is outside, everyone drinks hot tea.
Post Boat Blog
A private moment to blog. This is a little journal entry after we docked. I remember the day was a fun one, a packed one, and a difficult one due to lack of sleep and crankiness. Here, I talk a little about the stress of traveling and how necessary it is to be able to adapt to different situations. Also, being out of my natural routine and environment can actually get quite emotional and I talked a little bit about my feelings that day. Despite all the stress, I have to say Grace and I overall got along amazingly well. As we were planning our trip, we focused a lot about all these incredible places we were going to visit and all the people we’d meet. I don’t remember us talking at all about how we’d be with each other nearly every waking moment and how we’d be stepping over each other. Given the circumstances, I’m really proud of how well we got along. I learned a lot about her on this trip — and she, me — and I know traveling together made us closer friends.
