LUXOR — Part 2

May 14, 2008

Giant Ramses!

After the Karnak Temple, we head over to the Luxor Temple. At the entrance to this Temple stands some striking Ramses statues.

Luxor Courtyard

This entire space was renovated and restored back to the way it was believed to have originally looked.

Temple Underground

This entire area was once underground. This whole area is an archeologist’s dream — literally, an underground ancient temple!

Sphinx Road 2

Another portion of the Sphinx Road. Archeologists have discovered that the Sphinx Road was a road that connected the Karnak and the Luxor Temples. The Egyptian government is now funding an excavation project to restore the road, and they hope to have it done soon — the only problem is the relocation of the houses built on top of the road, that temporarily stand in the way of the complete excavation project. There’s so much archeology in Egypt and it seems there are constant excavations. I’m sure many, many projects have to be put on hold because to excavate and restore everything would costs millions of dollars.
