Israel Turns 60: PART FIVE

Kibbutz Ride

After picking up Grace, we’re heading off to my old Kibbutz, Bachan, where I lived while a soldier. Now my oldest “adopted” kibbutz brother is in the army!

West Bank View

Grace and I head to Bachan. Yuval drives, and his dad Marian points out the West Bank.

Safta

Marian, Grace and I stop in Netanya to visit my grandmother.

Beit Lid Junction

This junction was the site of terror attacks, most significantly, one that happened when I was a soldier. This used to be where I caught the bus to go to the army each week. Luckily, I was on weekend guard duty when the Beit Lid Junction attack happened… otherwise, I would’ve been there.

Ceremony Prep

The folks at Kibbutz Bachan prepare to commemorate Israel’s fallen soldiers.

First Yom HaZikaron Siren

This was the first nation-wide siren commemorating Israel’s fallen soldiers. The second happens the following morning.

Kibbutz Kids

I thought I was taking a photo, but I was taking a video. These kids were babies when I last lived here!

The Cube

This “cube” was my apartment when I was 18 years old.
