Israel Turns 60: PART FOUR

May 5, 2008

Synagogues

Chaya explains why there are so many synagogues in her neighborhood. (Hint: She’s religious!)

Countryside

A quick pit stop to check out the view in Modi’in

Cousins

Chaya is okay with being filmed, but her kids/grandkids are not, so I shot the view from Odelya’s home in Kiryat Sefer.

Gas

Chaya and I stop for gasoline. In the video I make a bit of a conversion mistake — It’s actually 3.8 pints to the gallon, not two. Yes, gas is super expensive in Israel… the vehicle taxes are even worse.

Roman

Chaya drops me off with Roman, an old friend from Kibbutz Bachan, the Kibbutz where we both lived when I was a soldier. It’s so nice to catch up with old friends!

1948 Armored Cars

Roman drives me back to Yehudit’s house. I ask him to pull over on the way up to Jerusalem to take a look at the armored cars from Israel’s 1948 War of Independence.

Back To The Airport!

I head back to Tel Aviv International Airport to meet Grace, my friend from Philadelphia who will be traveling with me.

Grace Arrives

And here she is!
